Abstract
This collection consists of carte de visite portraits of members of the Association of Officers of the 55th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, one of Massachusetts' two black infantry regiments during the Civil War.
Collection Description
This collection consists of one album containing 29 cartes de visite of members of the Association of Officers of the 55th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, one of Massachusetts' two black infantry regiments during the Civil War. The association was a veterans' organization for officers who served with that regiment, and the photographs are mostly of white officers from the 55th, as well as one carte de visite of an unidentified black soldier. Many of the photographs are identified and were taken both during and after the Civil War. Photographers include H. C. Foster (Charlestown and Morris Island, S.C.), Amos H. Locke (Plymouth, Mass.), and John Adams Whipple (Boston, Mass.), among others.

The photographs in this collection are arranged in the order in which they appear in the album.
